At least four drivers who were found speeding excessively during the festive season were nabbed between December 21 and 22.

At least four drivers who were found speeding excessively during the festive season were nabbed between December 21 and 22.

This comes after a festive-season operation which was conducted by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Speed and Drug Enforcement Units.

In these operations, a 34-year-old man driving a white BMW sedan was detained for driving at 164km/h instead of 120km/h in Dinwiddie on December 21.

He had been on the N3 freeway south direction between Grey avenue on-ramp and Heidelberg off-ramp.

On the same day, three motorists, who sped on Hennie Alberts road, were stopped and apprehended for failing to comply with the 60km/h speed limit.

At 9.40am, a 30-year-old man, driving a Fiat Uno Turbo, was also arrested for clocking 144km/h on that stretch of road.

Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, said: “Among the arrested male drivers, there was a 30-year-old female driving a silver KIA Rio. She reported that she was late for an appointment when stopped for registering 111km/h.”

The last person nabbed was a 48-year-old driver in a silver Range Rover SUV who was taken in for doing 102km/h.

All four speedsters were taken to the Alberton police station. They face charges of reckless and negligent driving.
