JOHANNESBURG – Windybrow Theatre proudly presents In the Heart, a heart-wrenching story taking us on a journey of three women living in a small village called Ntunta, near the Swaziland border. It is set during an era of political and socio-economic struggles in the village and surrounding areas.

We are introduced to Glenda, a character married to Makhuhleni and together they own a shop in Ntunta and a construction business in Nelspruit. Their union is one filled with adultery, secrets and lack of fulfillment. This leads to their shop being a stop providing one way tickets to ambitious young women to a short-lived ‘good life’ in Nelspruit.

Everyone in this village is looking for the big break to get out of the poverty and start afresh in Nelspruit. Lisbet (shop assistant at Glenda’s shop) makes an entry into the scene and has an affair with Makhuhleni in Nelspruit. Things don’t go well and she returns to the village for a second chance at the shop.

Angel’s future is promising but will she survive the tests? The production shows the hardships, mystery, misfortunes of the villagers and Angel is the only one representing purity, sanity and hope in the midst of the evil, chaotic life of the villagers.

This great production is written and directed by Mncedisi Shabangu; who has 17 years of mentoring community theatre groups as well as actors & directors. Beyond his role as Skhumbuzo in SABC 3 drama series The Lab; Mncedisi has won several awards working with acclaimed directors such as Lara Foot, James Ngcobo, Paul Grootbom, William Kentridge, Aubrey Sekhabi to name a few. Mncedisi directs a cast of three phenomenal women, namely Pertunia Maphanga, Tsepang Mkwane & Keitumetse Mncwabe whose brilliant portrayal of the characters will keep audiences at the edge of their seats.
