Red Bull Kasi Cup to kick off

Red Bull Kasi Cup celebrates township talent and affords an opportunity for those players to make their mark.

TALENTED footballers are found at grassroots and the country boasts thousands of players willingly to showcase it.

Soccer in South Africa starts mostly in townships and on those rough dusty fields, the heroes of tomorrow are born.

Red Bull Kasi Cup celebrates township talent and affords an opportunity for those players to make their mark.

This new tournament will take place on September 28 at Dorothy Nyembe Park in Soweto and will see four of Gauteng’s top township soccer teams battle it out for top honours.

The teams emerged champions of their respective local kasi tournaments earlier in the year.

Top participating teams are Zak Park FC (Soweto), Jan Malambo 11 (Mamelodi), Gibos River Park FC (Soweto) and Snack FC (Thokoza).

Speaking at the launch, Red Bull Kasi Cup ambassador and South African professional football midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala said: “As players we are always looking for opportunities to showcase our talent and I am excited to be part of this tournament.

“As a product of kasi football, I am honored to champion the Red Bull Kasi Cup because platforms like these enable us to continue showcasing new talent.”
