New law regulates motorists

Albertonians share their views of the demerit points system that has been introduced to penalise offensive drivers while rewarding law-abiding road users.

PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa recently signed an Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (Aarto) bill into law. The demerit points system has been introduced to penalise offensive drivers but also reward law-abiding road users. The RECORD asked Albertonians if they thought a new law would help reduce traffic violations.

GERHARD STRYDOM: “It is a good idea but how will it be implemented? Will it affect law-abiding citizens or will they disregard it to get away free anyway?”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ABEL MATODZI: “This is a good thing because it will help reduce accidents on roads. However, system or not, corruption still exists in our country.”
