e-Siyakhokha troubles for days

"I would also be very interested to know why they found it necessary to spend millions of rands of our money to replace something that was working exceptionally well to begin with."

I discovered that the old e-Siyakhokha website had been closed down when I went to pay this month’s water, lights and rates bill.

I was redirected to the new site, but in the past two weeks, I have been unable to log onto the new website at all and therefore unable to re-register. This now means guessing the amount to pay, since the utility bill never arrives in the post before the payment due date, which is why the old website was so useful.

I called their support centre last week to ask whether the new site was up and running, and was assured that it was, although they did say that they were experiencing some problems with people using the Firefox web browser, which I do.

I have since used Chrome to try to log on, I have also used my wife’s laptop, using Chrome, with no success, as well as both of our cellphones.

No luck either.

One gets a message saying the server at www.siyakhokha.ekurhuleni.gov.za is taking too long to respond.

So I reached out to my neighbour who runs an IT and web development company, and you guessed it, she could not log on either.

OK, I do not give up easily, so on July 29 I called the support number again, the phone rang for at least 15 minutes.

No one picked up, so I sent them an email expressing my frustration and asking for help.

So far, no reply. I could accept that perhaps they had a few hours of down time, or at worst a day or so, but I have been trying now for at least 10 days, so the conclusion that I draw is that either I have been incredibly unlucky or the darned thing doesn’t work!

I would also be very interested to know why they found it necessary to spend millions of rands of our money to replace something that was working exceptionally well to begin with.
