NURSERY schools are advised to be vigilant of suspects posing as interested parents who want to register their children at the school.
Fidelity ADT alerted all nursery schools to be aware of two females, one male and two children who target schools mostly in Edenvale, pretending to be interested parents.
Renee Basson, a community development manager at Fidelity ADT, said the suspects arrive at the schools under the pretence.
“At their arrival, they say they want to register their child at the school, and while they keep the staff busy, the children then steal cellphones and other valuables.
“If you suspect this is going on, please do not confront the suspects, but call 10111, as well as your security company. Please do not leave the visiting children unattended. Rather assign a teacher or member of staff to keep them entertained. Lock away handbags and cellphones as well as petty cash boxes. If possible, look for identifying features of the suspects so a full description can be done afterwards and try to get a vehicle registration and description of the car,” she said.
In an update to the release, the company stated that these incidents have spread to the Alberton area. However, so far local Alberton SAPS have not been made aware of similar cases.
