Post box destroyed

An explosion heard by residents of Saint Michael Road

A RESIDENT of Saint Michael Road, Alberton, heard a loud explosion at around 19:00 on January 6.

Ian Dutoit was inside his house at the time and he explained that, “It sounded like a huge explosion and I thought that maybe it could have been an electrical explosion, because it was raining and perhaps the water had dripped through into one of the electrical boxes.”

One resident immediately went outside to see what had happened, but noticed nothing untoward. Ian Dutoit and other residents around the area also went outside to see what had happened. A firecracker had been ignited and Ian Dutoit’s post box was destroyed. The brick work above it had lifted. The debris of the firecracker remained.

“The force of such a firecracker must have been immense to have caused such massive damage,” says Ian.
