THE FNB Joburg 10K CityRun’s three charities, namely the Joburg Heritage Foundation, Reach for a Dream Foundation and Johannesburg SPCA, received overwhelming support from runners in 2018, with a whopping combined total of R64 512 being raised for charity.

The Johannesburg SPCA is taking part in the FNB 10km CityRun on September 24. It is inviting runners or walkers to do it for the organisation. It is a great way to help raise funds for its animals by having fun on the day.

The Johannesburg SPCA is a non-profit organisation that started operating in 1902 and is dependent on the kindness and support of individuals and companies.

“It is an absolute honour to be chosen as an official charity of the FNB Joburg 10K CityRun,” said Liana Marx, head of public relations, marketing and fund-raising at the Johannesburg SPCA.

“The event is an amazing platform that enables the SPCA to get the much-needed publicity and support. This helps us to educate the public on the role that the Johannesburg SPCA fulfils in society. We would like to thank Stillwater Sports and FNB for allowing us to be part of this amazing fund-raising event.

“We are also thankful to each and every runner who supported us by making a donation. A portion of the funds went towards our food bill. Feeding between 200 and 250 animals on a daily basis means that we run up quite an account when it comes to food.

“We were also able to purchase feed for the farm animals that we have in our farmyard. The rest of the funds were used to sterilise animals for people who didn’t have the funds to do so themselves.

“Our outreach officers were also able to vaccinate public animals with vaccines purchased thanks to the donations received.”

There are many areas in which the Johannesburg SPCA can be assisted, from volunteering to donating items such as plastic beds for the animals to sleep in, toys for all the animals, blankets and food or by making a monetary donation.
