‘Drive with caution’ – motorists urged
Holiday makers have to drive with caution as they make their way back from various holiday destinations.
JOHANNESBURG – Traffic authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution on the road as traffic volumes were expected to increase this week as holiday makers make their way home.
Routes which are expected to be busy are the M1 from Limpopo to Gauteng, M1 from Free state to Gauteng, N3 from Kwazulu-Natal to Gauteng, N4 from Mpumalanga to Gauteng, N2 from Kwazulu-Natal to Eastern Cape and N2 from Eastern Cape to Western Cape.
Thato Mosena, Road Traffic Management Cooperation spokesperson told SA Government News Agency, “We are once again calling on motorists to exercise caution when using these busy routes, our law enforcement agencies will be out in full force to monitor and stop vehicles.”
Mosena said large numbers of vehicles were expected on the road from January 5. She urged motorists to look out for wet condition on the roads and expect eventualities such as tire bursts in extreme hot conditions.
According to Mosena, dangerous overtaking, drink and driving and excessive speeding continue to be contributing factors in road crashes.
