KO Kings Box and Dine will take place on June 8 at Emperors Palace, hosted by Golden Gloves promotions. Doors will open at 7pm and boxing starts at 8pm.

APART from Kevin Lerena who will make his all-important fourth defence of his International Boxing Organisation (IBO) cruiserweight belt, the undercard on the evening will have the fans on the edge of their seats.

KO Kings Box and Dine will take place on June 8 at Emperors Palace, hosted by Golden Gloves promotions. Doors will open at 7pm and boxing starts at 8pm.

The star-studded event which will boast future champions of the country will see Lerena and Vasil Ducar in the main bout of the evening. Lerena (22-1; 10) will have a face-off with the unknown and inexperienced Ducar, who has a record of 7-0-1;6

The 28-year-old Ducar from the Czech Republic is a former mixed martial arts fighter from Brno. He became a professional boxer in April 2007 and won the World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Cruiserweight title.

He is listed at number 28 by the IBO and comes off a good win over the big-punching Samuel Kadje, stopping him in the 10th round for the vacant WBF Intercontinental Cruiserweight title.

According to Lerena, he can read nothing in his boxing record and he will prepare for the fight on the evening as well as possible.

“We have to focus on my fighting plan and get in the ring, taking it round by round.”

Southerner Michael Mokoena from the Box Office will take on hot prospect Jabulani Makhense. Makhense (7-0; 4) will defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan African Junior Welterweight title against southpaw Mokoena (14-2; 9).

Mokoena upset the pugilist earlier this year and last year, ending the career of Lusanda Komanisi and stopping Thompson Mokwana.

On the other hand, Makhense’s trainer, Sebastiaan Rothmann, said: “We have the utmost respect for Michael Mokoena, who upset the bookies twice – last year and this year – by ending the career of Lusanda Komanisi and stopping Thompson Mokwana.

“The respect and good run Mokoena has had means nothing to Jabulani Makhense, who is WBA Pan African Junior Welterweight.”

Future champion in the making, also from the Box Office, Ricardo Malajika, training under the watchful eye of former boxer Anton Gilmore, will be in action as one of the undercards.

Among the other exciting young prospects on the bill are Aidan Quin, Ruarke Knapp, Keaton Gomes, Arnel Lubisi, Boyd Allen and Amador Kalonji. Book your seat with Jeff Ellis by calling 078 457 3030.
