DA councillor spreads joy this Christmas

Democratic Alliance (DA) Ekurhuleni Councillor Khetha Shandu on Thursday December 19 delivered Christmas gifts from the Santa Shoe box to underprivileged kids in Tembisa.

With unemployment so high, the gap between the poor and the rich seems to be widening, it is likely that more kids will remain on poverty level, despite the intervention of child’s grant.

More parents remain unemployed and with graduates and matriculants keeps pouring on the system every year. Projects like the Santa Shoe Box are a huge assistant to its Beneficiaries like Itekeng day care and Shela’s day care and many more around Ekurhuleni.

“It is more relevant today that umntwana ukhuliswa yisizwe (Your child is my child) than before, if we as South Africans work hand in hand to fight this mass distraction, I have no doubts that we shall soon reach the intended results, lift more people from poverty levels” Clr Shandu explains on how impactful these projects are in the community.

“In August I was humbled by a lady who told me that the 2012 project lifted a huge burden on her shoulders as she had no idea of how she was going to provide for her children, but with this assistant she was able to be at ease after her children had benefited” he continues.

A proper childhood has a positive outcome on who the child is likely to be when he or she grows up, how the society treat its children profoundly determine the psyche of the future generation. The least we can give our children is love, courage, appreciation and a proper education.

“I would like to appeal on Non Government Organizations designed to assist young children not to overlook the fact that, there are still more children that are in need of such assistant in our communities.

“On the same vein, would like to thank them for their endless effort to reach and make a difference in these children, under difficult circumstance, I am aware most of them struggles financial but keep trying just to put a smile on our children,” he explains.

Neglect ion of early childhood developments by government also puts unnecessary strain to the society, whose only choice of early childhood development are struggling private crèches that are not receiving or earning enough money to run the most basic needs of such institutions.
