Tributes pour in for Jerry Kobyzski

Jerry made the world a better place than it was when he found it.

FOR the Alberton Heritage Society, it’s hard to say goodbye to Jerry Kobyzski. He was a well-loved member who loved his community, always embraced a challenge and lived a full life with passion.

Jerry made a positive impact on so many people’s lives and he is leaving an amazing legacy behind. Heritage Society members all agree that Jerry made the world a better place than it was when he found it. It is an honour and privilege for the Alberton Heritage Society to pay tribute to him.

The society will always remember Jerry, not only as a valued member of the Alberton Heritage Society, but also a good friend to all who knew him.

He shared his expertise and passion with others and he worked hard and consistently to help establish a heritage museum in Alberton, by continuously finding and donating valuable artefacts.

As a photographer, his photos not only made it possible to preserve many special memories, but it was also reflected his love and passion for the environment and its beauty.

Members of the society described Jerry as someone who never sat back and became complacent and one who never stepped back from a challenge.

He led by example and, with his wealth of knowledge and his artefacts on “forgotten technology”, many young school learners gained inspiration and knowledge from him.

Jerry was a role model and an inspiration to many. Even though he was not born in South Africa, he left no stone unturned in his quest to preserve South Africa’s heritage for future generations.

WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE: Jerry Kobyzski loved teaching young school learners about technology of the past. Here, he shows them the workings of an old electric machine.

Regrettably, his dream of establishing a heritage museum in Alberton was not fulfilled in his lifetime.

Jerry’s memorial service was held on January 2 at the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Alberton.

Jerry will be dearly missed and he will forever be fondly remembered!
