Door of Hope receives much-needed donation

Door of Hope received a much-needed donation, just in time to help them get through the festive season.

GLENVISTA-based care centre Door of Hope was filled with joy and excitement when they received a Christmas donation from real-estate agency Century21 and LG Gouveia Attorneys (Private Property).

They visited Door of Hope with various presents for the children on December 20.

Eight-year-old Gabby Gouveia came up with the idea.

“I decided to help the babies because Door of Hope came to my school and told us about the babies they care for. When I got home, I told my mother that I want to help the babies,” Gabby told the CHRONICLE.

Century21 and LG Gouveia Attorneys donated baby formula, nappies, baby food in jars, packs of baby wipes, tinned goods, packs of cornflakes, baby Vaseline, boxes of porridge and many other necessities.

Door of Hope’s manager, Claude Bonikay, was delighted and appreciative of the donation.

“I encourage people to give the little they can afford because we survive on donations,” said Bonikay.

Door of Hope is home to 75 babies. Forty of them are aged naught to six months, 20 are between the ages of six months and one year and 15 are between one and two years old.

BENEVOLENCE: Ockert Hoffman, Christine Avian, Leila Gouveia, Gabby Gouveia, Miguel Gouveia, Claude Bonikay (Door Of Hope manager), Joshua Broll, Neels Potgieter, Sonja Britz and Ampie Grotsius donated Christmas gifts to Door of Hope on December 20. The gifts included much-needed items for the babies at the home.

Leila Gouveia from LG Gouveia Attorneys said they partnered with Century21 to give back to the community.

“We have chosen the babies to be our priority for our newly established charity drive because babies do not choose to be born in any situation,” Leila said.
