BMX comes alive at Grand Nationals

BMX came alive at the Germiston and Alrode legs of the SA Grand Nationals held in April and September in Gauteng.

ALBERTON – The cream of the crop of country’s BMX riders, representing Western Cape, Kwa-Zulu Natal , Zimbabwe and host province Gauteng, took part.

A total of 160 riders participated in various classes for boys and girls from five years and under up to 45 years, as well as the top elite classes.

Kyle Dodd, fresh back from the USA where he trained, rode away with the honours in the elite class, with local rider Kane Herbert from Alrode BMX Club runner-up at Germiston.

During September the SA BMX racing scene returned to Gauteng with the final legs at Alrode BMX Club.

Alberton local and top ranked elite men BMX racer Kyle Dodd raced to victory in cold and windy Alberton conditions.

This is the first time that Dodd achieved the status of overall SA National Champion since he started racing as an elite racer back in 2010 at 16 years. He also successfully defended his title, the culmination of five rounds.

Kane Herbert also from Alrode BMX Club achieved a double with his dominating performances in both the men cruiser and 17 to 24 classes.
