GALLERY: Are the repairs on the Boulevard enough?

Only a small part of the Boulevard is currently being repaired.

REPAIRS and upgrading of a section of the Alberton Boulevard have started at the parking lot on the end of the Alberton Boulevard.

According to alderman Bruna Haipel an amount of R3-million has been made available for the repairs on the boulevard. But, according to her, this amount is not even close to the amount it would take to completely fix the problems in the boulevard.

Alberton Boulevard, located in the Alberton CBD, is frequented by hundreds if not thousands of people every day.

The pavement running all the way shows severe degradation and decay with pavement stones lifting, drain covers missing as well as damage from pieces of pavement lifted up.

Restoration of Alberton Boulevard has been on the IDP for Ward 106 ongoing for 10 years. The budget from Ekurhuleni is not sufficient for the boulevard to be fixed within the space of a year.

Haipel has raised concerns as to what the additional cost to the taxpayers will be due to side costs such as the reestablishment of site offices for each individual phase of the repairs as money becomes available.

Residents have spoken to the RECORD about the Boulevard being a severe eye-sore to the people going to the area.

The effect of this on businesses in the area can’t be positive. Aside from the aesthetic nature of the problems some of the damage to the boulevard could be considered dangerous to the pedestrians that walk up and down the street.

Haipel has requested anyone that was injured due to tripping and falling on the Boulevard to contact her as your testimony could help lead credence to the acceleration of money being made available for the repairs.

If you would like to contact her regarding this send her an email on bruna.haipul@absamail.co.za or phone her on 082 454 6856.
