Electricity upgrade in Ward 38 underway

The project will run from November 5, until May 31, 2019.

A project to upgrade and to replace electricity meters in Ward 38 has commenced with the proposed site construction work due to start on November 5 in the Brackendowns area. To explain the process of the project as well as to answer potential questions, councillor Malcolm Maifala would like to give the following information to the residents of Ward 38:

“The affected areas for this project are Brackendowns Main and Brackendowns Extension 1. Detailed planning will be communicated once detailed drawings for the affected stands are available.

“The project entails the following work for affected stands in the area. Old meter kiosks will be removed. “Excavation work will be done to prepare for the installation of new protective structures, after which the kiosks will be installed. New meters will be installed in the kiosks.

“The project will then commission the new meters and keypads and protective structures. Upon completion, the sites where work has been done will be rehabilitated to their original state.

“Electricians authorised by the City of Ekurhuleni(CoE) will wear CoE ID cards and will be in vehicles branded with the main contractor’s detail.

“Residents will need to give electricians access to their properties for the installation of keypads and to provide training in their usage. The municipality would like to appoint a CLO (community liaison officer) who will assist with the distribution of notices to affected stands.

“Electricity will be affected in certain areas during the project. The plan is for power to be switched off to affected stands in succession.

“CoE is still awaiting power reticulation drawings for the affected stands. There is a possibility that stands not directly affected by the project could experience power outages if they are fed by the same mini-substation as an affected stand.

“Installations are planned for Monday to Thursday from 7am until 4pm when the power will be restored. No installations will take place on Fridays and weekends.”

The project is scheduled to end on May 30, 2019.
