SERGEANT Lindi Moloi from Brackenhurst SAPS, in partnership with speakers concerned with the safety of children, went to Independent High School on September 17 to speak to the learners about the dangers of drugs.
The speakers included Donovan Du Toit, shareholder of 4th Dimension Security, police reservist Aiden Pereira, media officer for correctional services Sello Modise and Jesse Schaper who spoke to the children from personal experience.
The message delivered to the learners was clear. Drugs ruin lives.
Schaper told the children about his personal history with drugs and how being arrested has negatively impacted his future in society.
Modise shared the horrors of young people in jail and told all listening that most of the times their arrests can be traced back to being involved with drugs.
Du Toit spoke about the importance of respect and working hard to create a future for yourself. Lastly, Pereira told the learners how important it is for them to reach out to someone and inform them that they can prevent the deaths of their peers.
