Man arrested for false hijacking claim

Detectives later discovered from the man that he had an accident with the vehicle and decided to make a false case to hide this fact.

A CASE of defeating the ends of justice was opened by the Brackendowns Police Station against a man who phoned them with false information about a hijacking.

The man in question phoned the police on September 9 claiming that his vehicle was hijacked on Swartkoppies Road. The phone call was made in the evening from a house in Meyersdal.

On investigating the matter, police discovered footage of the complainant driving the vehicle into the Meyersdal Eco Estate and running out of the estate to the other house where he made the call from.

Detectives later discovered from the man that he had an accident with the vehicle and decided to make a false case to hide this fact.

The suspect appeared in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on August 11 to face charges of defeating the ends of justice.
