The Gauteng Barbarians had a successful league in Durban

The Gauteng Barbarians is a veterans team made up of top veteran rugby players (players over 35 years old) from clubs all across Gauteng.

K-SPORT Gauteng Barbarians recently had a very successful tournament which took place on July 13 and 14 at the newly launched Zando Durban 10s, on the rugby fields around Kings Park Stadium in Durban.

The Gauteng Barbarians is a veterans team made up of top veteran rugby players (players over 35 years old) from clubs all across Gauteng. The team is based in and practices from Alberton Rugby Club. K-Sport Clothing has recently come on board as the team’s new sponsor and therefore the name change to K-Sport Gauteng Barbarians.

The K-Sport Gauteng Barbarians were entered in the Vets League and played the final in Kings Park Stadium against the SA Legends as a curtain raiser for the Sharks vs Jaguares game on Saturday. The Barbarians had a very good start scoring two quick tries through the centre Leon Lubbe and the scrumhalf Pieter Claassens. The Legends, however, fought back and only sealed their victory with time up on the clock. This was a very good performance when you bear in mind the Legends team is made up of ex-Springbok and Sharks provincial players, such as John Smit and Henno Mentz.

The next stop for the K-Sport Gauteng Barbarians is at the Zando Tshwane 10s which takes place at Harlequins Rugby Club in Pretoria on September 1 and 2.

“We are confident that we will go from strength to strength and will do even better at the Tshwane 10s,” says Jason Waldeck, who plays for the Barbarians.
