Armed robbery foiled by CPS

Two of the six suspects were arrested.

CPS Security responded to an armed robbery in Van Riebeeck Road on June 18 just past 11am.

“Our control room received an alarm activation from a business lot,” said sales director of CPS, Tyrone van der Merwe.

“On our arrival, we encountered six armed suspects. The suspects opened fire at our reaction units and Alberton SAPS members who were doing a routine patrol.”

The suspects fled on foot after attempting to take the client’s truck, which was loaded with oil. Their tactical members were called for backup and two of the six suspects were arrested after they were found hiding inside the Rand Airport facilities.

Two unlicensed firearms were recovered. A third unlicensed firearm was also found on the scene. The supects’ getaway car was abandoned on scene, which is also positive on a Moffat View case.

SAPS is busy with the investigation. The RECORD will publish comment from Alberton SAPS as soon as it’s received.
