BREAKING NEWS: Armed robbery in Phillips street, Verwoerdpark

Robbers fire shots, get away with R200 000.

A MAN was shot at while he was on his way home after withdrawing money at a bank in Alberton Boulevard.

According to Tyrone van der Merwe, sales director for CPS Security, the gentleman’s vehicle got boxed in by two Volkswagen Polo’s. This happened in Phillip Street in Verwoerdpark.

“The man did not want to get out of his vehicle so the five suspects started firing shots at the car,” Van der Merwe said.

They shot at his vehicle’s back and front windows until he got out. All five suspects were armed with handguns and stole about R200 000 and drove off. Luckily no one got hurt.

Van der Merwe told the RECORD that there is a big problem in the area with people withdrawing large amounts of cash and being robbed.

“The criminals are looking out for these people. Please be aware.”

CPS Security also has armed escorts available for people who need it. Legal authorities including Alberton SAPS were on the scene. Fingerprints and photographs were taken by SAPS. They will be investigating the matter.

Report any form of crime to Alberton SAPS on 011 861 6800 or CPS Security on 011 024 2426.
