BOTTLENOSE DOLPHINS: Compared to the size of their bodies, bottlenose dolphins might just have the largest brain of any creature. Dolphins are self-aware and can recognise themselves in a mirror. They also communicate a lot like whales and pass on their knowledge to their young.
HEY kids! Everyone knows that we humans are the smartest creatures in the world, but there are plenty of other creatures that are very clever for their size. Here are five of the world’s smartest non-human creatures.
CHIMPANZEES: Chimps are the closest to human in the animal kingdom, with DNA only being one percent different from each other. Chimps can manipulate their environment much like we can (such as decorating it or moving things around to improve the environment they’re in). They can make and use their own tools and even plot and commit a murder.PIGS: A middle-aged pig can be as smart as a three-year-old human. Pigs are fast learners, which makes it easier for them to learn new things, remember tricks and adapt to new environments. Pigs make great pets – be sure to remember this and think twice next time you eat bacon.PARROTS: Parrots are great at solving complex problems and they have an excellent memory. They’re great at remembering and copying sounds and words and can learn up to almost 1 800 words.WHALES: Whales are great at solving problems and working together strategically. They also love to play, which is a sign of good intelligence. Whales use complex sounds to communicate. They can also pass on their knowledge to their young.
