A shy girl on a journey to confidence
She says that, like a lot of girls, she must learn to defeat her personal insecurities.
SHE is not your typical diva at all – her road to confidence has only just begun.
The RECORD interviewed Tandice Rynhoud (20), a sales assistant who has very recently joined the Miss Eagle South Africa pageant. However, Tandice graduated from Hoërskool Alberton in 2016 and now she is a sales assistant at Venditime in New Redruth. She finally joined the Miss Eagle South Africa pageant last September after a lot of urging from her parents and grandparents.
Tandice has a sister, Nikita (15) and she lives with her grandparents in South Crest, Alberton. She’s always loved dancing and being creative. During her free time, she dances (she even wishes to start her own dance school one day), runs, plays with her rabbit and colouring in her adult colouring books.
Just a dream
When she was little, Tandice used to love watching beautiful models and dancers on television and she’d always feel inspired. She secretly dreamed of being Miss South Africa someday, but it was just a dream…
As she grew older, her parents and grandparents saw what a beautiful woman she had become, even though she did not see herself that way. They kept encouraging her to enter a pageant, but she never had the courage.
One day, when Tandice was at the mall with her late grandfather, Paul Engelbrecht, there was a stand promoting the Figures Modelling Agency and they were looking for new models. Tandice’s grandfather knew she would not approach the stand herself, so he went and entered her details for her. And that’s how her road to confidence began.
Today, Tandice is a brand ambassador at the Miss Eagle pageant, on her way to becoming a finalist. She competes in modelling competitions at Figures Alberton once a month and has modelling classes once a week.
Grab all opportunities
“Getting into this Miss Eagle pageant is one of the biggest achievements I’ve gotten,” said Tandice. “If it weren’t for my grandfather, I wouldn’t have been here. He’s my biggest inspiration and the reason that I dance and, now, do modelling. He always supported me. I miss him so much.”
Tandice says she also owes her gratitude to her mother, Monique Moolman, and her father, Dale Rynhoud, for always supporting and motivating her.
The biggest challenge that Tandice faces is to always be confident. She says that, like a lot of girls, she must learn to defeat her personal insecurities. “It’s not easy, but I’m really trying,” she said.
Tandice would like to give a message to the readers: “Don’t allow anything or anyone to get in the way of achieving your dreams. If life offers you a good opportunity, grab it with both hands. Focus on your dreams and you will achieve them without hesitation.”
