Roberto’s challenge for 2018

The core functions of The Recovery Foundation are to help people who are on the bottom end of society and those on the streets who are homeless and jobless.

THE South’s avid cyclist, Roberto Ferreira is no stranger to us. The Glenvista resident previously managed the Phoenix House Addiction Rehabilitation Centre in Sophiatown and has been the director of the non-profit company called The Recovery Foundation NPC, in Oakdene for a while now.

Once again he is cycling for The Recovery Foundation and to help addicts, similarly to the core functions of The Recovery Foundation which are to help people who are on the bottom end of society and those on the streets who are homeless and jobless.

Roberto is an avid cyclist and newly found road runner who is always pushing himself to new limits and always willing for new experiences. This year, Roberto has challenged himself to complete the following races:

• Dischem Ride for Sight 116km Cycle (completed it in four hours and three minutes at an average of 28.7km per hour New personal best) on February 18.

• Deloittes Pretoria Marathon 42.2km on February 25.

• Cape Town Cycle Tour 109km on March 11.

• Two Oceans Ultra Marathon 56km on March 31.

• Comrades Marathon 90km on June 10.

• Tshwane Cycle Challenge 95km, this date is still to be confirmed.

• 947 Cycle Challenge Cycle 95km on November 18.

Roberto is dedicating his efforts for 2018 to Alex Reichman (with permission from his family) to showcase we do recover. Alex passed away in late 2016 from natural causes after having managed to come back from a very dark place and landing up in the South African prison system due to his addiction. Alex managed to find recovery, reunite with his family, get a regular job, cultivate friendships, find a soulmate and purchase a car, among other things.

This ties in closely with what The Recovery Foundation believes in, finding loving connections with others and having a purpose in life allows us all an opportunity to recover from our circumstances.

You are encouraged to support Roberto in celebrating Alex’s life and example by supporting The Recovery Foundation as he takes on these challenges to help others who’ve lost more than their hopes and dreams. To donate or for more information contact Roberto on 074 185 6474.
