Petition to clear illegal mechanics from streets

"I've also asked for barriers to be put up to prevent them from parking in some of the places they park on the pavements, etc, but they have not gotten back to me."

ALBERTON North has been sitting with the problem of streets being used as one big mechanic garage for years, with no resolution.

The area around the corner of Pieter Uys Avenue and Hendrik Potgieter Street is particularly bad, with cars strewn all over, being worked on, oil leaks and litter and even car parts lying around.

DUMP: Car parts on the sidewalk.

According to Tiaan Kotze, ward councillor for the area, he has spoken with the EMPD who have promised to go around there on every shift and take care of the culprits, but this never happens.

“I’ve also asked for barriers to be put up to prevent them from parking in some of the places they park on the pavements, etc, but they have not gotten back to me,” said Kotze.

Kotze added that the culprits do receive fines every once in a while, but that it obviously is by no means a deterrent as the issue actually seems to be getting worse.

OIL AND CHAR: The site of a fire and messed oil.

The RECORD has contacted the City of Ekurhuleni as well as the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department for comment, but they have failed to comment before we went to print.

SHOCKING: Large pools of oil everywhere.

A petition has been set up to stop this illegal activity from taking place. Visit our website to find the link to the petition.

WHAT A MESS: Long grass, rubbish and a broken car windshield.
DISGRACEFUL: Rubble and trash lie around in heaps.
