Fighting a losing battle against scrap yards

Are there no by-laws that control them?

I am writing to all regarding the theft of telephone cables, metal, etc in the area, hoping that someone will be able to help us.

For many years, we as the owners and tenants of Alrode South have been fighting a losing battle.

We’ve had meetings with the various municipal departments, SAPS and owners of reputed scrap dealers, but measures put in place never worked.

As far as I know, there is a regulation regulating scrap dealers, but this is not implemented or enforced.

There are scrap dealers popping up all over the place, working 24 hours and seven days a week, purchasing anything and everything stolen in the area.

Are there no by-laws that control them? I am 100 per cent sure that they are operating illegally.

It has cost the companies in our area millions of Rands of lost income over the past few weeks alone and it’s still carrying on as more cables had been stolen over the weekend.

Please, we need your urgent help to close down these scrap dealers that are not towing the line and regulate the others.
