Now they’re stealing house numbers

"People should be aware and notify us if the numbers are sold around the area."

IT would now seem as if the Nyaope drug addicts have run out of ideas as to what to steal to obtain money to support their habits.

They have been breaking into houses to steal plasma televisions, meat, sliding gates and even EMM green dustbins and now they have converted to stealing house numbers. This has now become a set pattern in especially lower Eden Park in the vicinity of Abraham, Austin, Bentley, Audie and Borgward streets.

On the morning of October 9, the Williams and Coetzee families in Abraham Street discovered that the brass shining house numbers on the front walls were missing.

“We had these numbers for years and my poor wife always cleaned them to keep them shiny, but now they are gone, taken by these useless Nyaope boys to be sold. People should be aware and notify us if the numbers are sold around the area,” said the angry Frans William.

The opposite neighbour, Elizabeth Coetzee, said she is really frustrated by the theft of her numbers. “My late husband installed these numbers here and they’ve been here for years. I curse those who stole it,” she said.

The RECORD had noticed while going around in Eden Park that almost 60% of houses have no numbers. Emergency services struggle to locate houses.
