Helpmekaar College welcomes the Webb Ellis Trophy

The Webb Ellis Trophy was presented at Helpmekaar College on October 28 in line of the RWC 2015.

PARKTOWN – DHL has officially become the logistics partner of the Rugby World Cup 2015 and made a whistle stop at Helpmekaar College on October 28 presenting the trophy.

Forty per cent of Helpmekaar learners reside in Alberton and this includes the head boy of the school for 2014.

The whistle stop tour formed part of the build-up to RWC (Rugby World Cup) 2015 in England. The partnership will see DHL assume responsibility for the logistics of one of the biggest international sporting events… host country England over six weeks in September and October 2015.

“We are very excited to be joining forces once again with the IRB to deliver Rugby World Cup 2015. DHL sees tremendous synergies between a sport that is built on teamwork, passion and a will to win and the values that we strive to bring to life every day for our customers.

“We are actively involved in Rugby the world over, both through flagship global partnerships such as this one and through our participation in local clubs and grassroots initiatives. We will be working hard behind the scenes to support and match the world class performance that fans will surely be treated to on the pitch,” said Hennie Heymans, Managing Director of DHL Express South Africa.

Learners as well as teachers of Helpmekaar were very excited for being one of the chosen whistle stops in Johannesburg. Their first rugby team also formed a line for Grant Fox (rugby union player from New Zealand) carrying the trophy which SA won in 1995 and 2007.

DHL will be responsible for the transportation of tournament and team equipment from around the world to the 13 match venues in England. The equipment will include an estimated 1 400 rugby balls, 200 kicking tees and 200 tackle bags.
