TWO arrests were made after a stolen bakkie was recovered recently.
The EMPD Public Order Policing (POP) Unit had received information that vehicles had been disappearing from Rand Water Board premises on Kliprivier Road with independent witnesses mentioning that vehicles stolen were seen being driven along Kromvlei Road towards the Alberton area.
On Wednesday, August 23, the metro police officers came across vehicle tracking company officials who informed them about a white Toyota bakkie that had just been stolen from Rand Water premises and requested assistance.
Around 1pm the POP Unit’s members sighted a Toyota with two male occupants and decided to investigate. Upon searching the vehicle, officers realized that the dashboard was partly stripped and this raised suspicions. Contact was made with the tracking company officials, who confirmed that the Toyota bakkie was indeed the one stolen from Rand Water Board premises on Kliprivier Road.
The two male suspects, who are in their 30s, were arrested and detained at Kliprivier police station and charged with theft and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
