Ekurhuleni comments on Meyersdal Dump issue

The letter highlights issues such as the dump allegedly being misused.

RECORD published a letter by a resident concerning the Meyersdal Dump on August 16.

The letter highlights issues such as the dump allegedly being misused by restaurants and shops from the nearby shopping centre. It also claims the sewers get blocked up is because of the food, fats and oils that make their way into the drains.

EMM forwarded the following comment:

“Refuse is collected daily and the municipality’s environmental health division could not identify any environmental health nuisance or hazard related to refuse disposal during the time of the inspection,” said Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

“A statutory notice will be issued with regards to the storage of redundant articles which are stored in the back yard. Centre management will be approached to address and find a solution for the drainage problem. Follow-up visits will be conducted which will include monitoring the conduct of Spar Supermarket employees,” added Gadebe.
