Suspect nabbed in mysterious jockey disappearance

He is set to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s court on a count of murder.

A MAN linked to the mysterious disappearance of a Turffontein race jockey was set to appear in a Johannesburg court today.

The jockey – whose name is yet to be released – disappeared on Monday, July 24. The police are investigating a case of murder.

The burnt remains were found after police arrested a suspect (34) who took them to a location in Benoni where police found a torched body.

Members from the National Crime Intelligence Unit provided the Booysens police with intelligence relating to a possible suspect.

Further investigations were conducted and the suspect was linked to what police say is a murder investigation.
The man was arrested on Friday, July 28.

He is set to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s court on a count of murder.

“The police will now be conducting DNA analysis to confirm if the body belongs to the jockey who was reported missing after he disappeared from the racecourse,” said Naidoo.
