Political powerhouse arrested in Alberton

The high ranking official has also been linked to a spate of political murders that have plagued KZN for some time.

TWO suspects have been arrested in Alberton, one of whom is allegedly a high ranking ANC official and taxi association chairman in KZN.

At 1.15am on July 13, members of the South African Police Service spotted a white VW Golf Seven speeding at the Barry Marais, Spruitview off-ramp and after calling for backup followed the suspects and pulled them over on the corner of Grey Avenue, N3 towards Johannesburg.

The suspects were searched and one AK-47 assault rifle, one R5 assault rifle and a 9mm pistol linked to a theft case at Chatsworth SAPS (KwaZulu Natal) were found in the vehicle.

“The suspects are between the ages of 35 and 50 years of age,” spokesperson for the Alberton Police, Capt Manare Ramotshela said.

According to a source, who would like to remain anonymous, the high ranking official has also been linked to a spate of political murders that have plagued KZN for some time.

The RECORD contacted the police in Chatsworth and Alberton to get more information on the case and confirmation about the official in question, but they have not come back to us with any information as of yet.
