Bracken Amblers Walking Club welcomes all walkers

It has over 30 members and seven different walking routes to enjoy.

THE Bracken Amblers Walking Club invites everyone in joining them at the Brackenhurst Bowling and Tennis Club in Malherbe Street to walk, three times per week, for fun and health.

Jane Hart and Ronnie Findlay started the club almost 20 years ago. Today, it has over 30 members and seven different walking routes to enjoy. A few members stated that walking three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) keeps them young, healthy and ready for whatever challenges the day may hold. “This club is all for health and well-being,” said Melanie Wagner.

Even though well-being may be the main focal point for some members, others come for the social interaction and support. Cecilia Botha said: “The friendship and support are what I enjoy most about this club.”

Members pay a small fee of R110 every three months. This goes towards the club’s frequent social events. These events include a “cake day” every third Wednesday of the month and members often go to the café for a nice cup of coffee and a chat.

If you’re interested in joining the Bracken Amblers Walking Club feel free to call Ann on 011 867 5775 or Liz on 011 869 7791 for more details.
