Accident kills Tahlia Bothma (19)

A driver allegedly skipped a red robot at one of the Swartkoppies Road intersections, causing the fatal accident.

NINETEEN-year-old Tahlia Bothma lost her life on the night of April 28, when a driver allegedly skipped a red traffic light at the Swartkoppies and Kliprivier Road intersections (at Mall of the South), causing the fatal accident.

The event took place at about 10pm. Tahlia’s mother, Diane Burns, claims to know who the driver is. She describes him as a 21-year-old male, and she alleges that, according to people who interacted with him that night, he was intoxicated beyond speech.

Tahlia lived with her mother in Robertsham, in the South of Johannesburg. Diane is absolutely shattered. “What can one do?” she asks with hopelessness in her voice. “She had her whole life ahead of her. She was almost ready to get her degree from UNISA and spread her wings… now, what now?”

REST PEACEFULLY: Tahlia Bothma will live on forever in our hearts.

Diana has reported the case to the police and it is now under investigation. The motor insurance company has also offered (free of charge) to help analyse exactly what happened when the accident took place.

Diane further pleads with the community: “We are looking for more witnesses of the accident who can give formal statements, or anyone who might have seen the suspect or his car during or after the accident. Please contact me, Diana, on 079 922 5402 if you know anything.”
