Holiday fun at libraries

The programmes commence with story hour, puppet shows, face painting and educational programmes on how children can stay safe at home.

THE City of Johannesburg will be running various programmes across all 87 libraries in the city and has kicked off these holidays.

The holiday programmes are designed to be a fun learning experience, while providing a safe environment for children to learn and play during the Easter break.

The programmes are especially designed for children aged between three and fifteen and commence with story hour, puppet shows, face painting, and educational programmes on how children can stay safe at home.

MMC for Community Development Clr Nonhlanhla Sifumba said, by participating in these programmes, children will be less exposed to criminality.

“Not only are these programmes removing children from the streets, but also educating them and enhancing their reading skills,” said Sifumba.

Sifumba has also called upon all Grade 12 pupils to use library facilities for the Matriculants Support Programme. The city partnered with various stakeholders at the beginning of the year to ensure a variety of edutainment programmes which include WiFi and eWorld stations for online lessons, tutorials, past question papers and memorandums, provision of online eLearning courses with eClassrooms, conductive studying and learning spaces and provision of career guidance through the PACE programme.

Sifumba added that her department will make every effort to ensure that matriculants have the support they need to achieve better results.
