Pedestrian killed on R554

Upon arrival, the pedestrian was lying in the middle of the road, some meters away from the point of impact.

A FEMALE pedestrian, in her early 60’s, was declared dead after being knocked over by a motorcycle on the R554.

“The Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue team and paramedics from Wadeville Fire Station swiftly responded to the scene after receiving the call at around 07:27 on Monday, March 27,” said Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

Upon arrival, they found the pedestrian lying in the middle of the road, some metres away from the point of impact. Pre-hospital medical treatment was initiated, but the patient was declared dead by paramedics on the scene.

The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries but was in a stable condition. He was treated on the scene before being transported to the Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital, in Vosloorus.

The road was closed off after the accident and for the duration of the necessary procedures and investigations which took place.

KNOCKED OVER: The pedestrian’s body was found several metres from the point of impact.
