No end to water leak in Moorat Street

This leak has been here for more than a year.

THERE has been a water leakage in Moorat Street, Brackendowns, for at least the past year. It often gets fixed, but ends up leaking again after rainy weather.

Driving down the street, a long stream of water could be seen running down. The lawns and driveways of houses next to it were soaked. A deep, water-filled hole was dug into one of the lawns, presumably where the leak was fixed before.

DROWNING: Gardens in the area are constantly under water.

A resident, Chris Wewege, comments:

“This leak has been here for more than a year, constantly being fixed and leaking again, fixed and leaking again. I’m not sure if the municipality fixed it properly in the first place.”

He also added that the municipality may not be at fault; perhaps the recent stormy weather is what caused the leak to reoccur.

“The leak was supposed to be fixed last week. They did come and fix it, but now it’s leaking again because of the recent heavy rain.”

He says that this has been going on continuously for more than a year. Another man also phoned the RECORD earlier this week to report the same leak. He, however, said it had been going on for an estimated two years.

The RECORD is awaiting comment from the Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality.

POND: This is the result of digging a hole to fix the leak a few days prior to rainy weather.
