THE driver of a Renault Megane RS left an accident scene in Second Avenue, Alberton North, before authorities arrived, on the evening of Wednesday, January 4.
According to the Greater Alberton Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson, Peter Schreiber, the motorist was allegedly driving at high speed, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the wall of a house.
Armand Francois, a resident of the area, said he was in his house when he heard a bang outside.
“It was a loud noise, like a car hitting something. There were already people on the scene when I came out to see what was going on,” said Francois.
“I spoke to a guy on the scene and he said it was his car. I told him not to leave until the police arrive,” he added.
Schreiber says that the driver arranged a tow truck but allegedly refused to wait for police to arrive.
“We have given the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police (EMPD) and the Alberton SAPS all the relevant details and they are investigating.”
A video was posted on the Greater Alberton CPF Facebook page showing the car being towed away.
Alberton SAPS communications officer Captain Ramotshela could not be reached for comment.
