Ward councillor’s office stands empty

Ward councillors should be close to and available for the community they serve.

THE ward councillor’s office in Eden Park has been standing empty for four months and residents say that they don’t know where to go to raise matters that concern them.

After the August local elections the furniture was removed from the ward councillor’s office, and it has been left empty since.

A concerned pensioner, who wished not to be named, told the RECORD that the staff at the rates office told residents to go to Thokoza or Alberton if they needed to consult the ward councillor.

“Why must we spend taxi fair to Alberton or Thokoza to see a councillor? Former ward councillor William Jarvis completed his term here and even Gladstone Zide was here until 2016.

“We believe that a ward councillor should be near his or her ward, not just an empty office,” said the pensioner.

The RECORD is awaiting comment from the EMM.
