Money trucks damage the pavement

Money vehicles driving on the paving in front of shop in the boulevard could be one of the main reason for damage to the paving.

I would like to bring your attention to a problem we are facing in Alberton.

The Alberton Record has reported on problems with the broken up and generally damaged pavements, particularly on Alberton Boulevard.

Money vehicles driving on the paving in front of our shop, in the boulevard, could be one of the main reason for damage to the paving.

Surely this is illegal?

Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police (EMPD), had this to say: “In terms of the National Road Traffic Act, it is an offence to drive or to park on the sidewalk, as the sidewalk is meant for pedestrians. The fine is R200.

“You can well surmise the reason why the cash vans would commit such an offence – probably for safety reasons and strategic positioning in the event that they are attacked – it does not give them that right.

“It is not possible for the Metro police to be everywhere, thus I would suggest the concerned members of public report such offences to us to attend to. The EMPD could also engage the companies involved to desist from committing such an offence.”
