Paraplegic girl (8) drowns in bathtub

The child was taking a bath at the time of the incident.

A disabled girl child has drowned in the bath at an apartment in the Johannesburg CBD this morning. The child was taking a bath at the time of the incident. When Netcare911 paramedics arrived on scene and found that the little girl had already passed away before our arrival.
She was assessed for signs of life by a Netcare911 Emergency Care Practitioner and sadly, there was nothing that could be done.
She was declared dead at the scene. Police are investigating the matter.

Netcare911 would like to advise all parents and child minders not to leave children unattended near water sources.

This is not the only drowning that occurred recently. A Mpumalanga toddler suffered a near drowning after he fell into the pool last week. He was airlifted to a hospital in Johannesburg that holds the Paediatric Drowning Centre of Excellence.
