One killed in fatal taxi accident
Belongings of the injured could be seen scattered all around the smashed vehicle.
One male has died, eight have suffered serious injuries and two have slight injuries, after a mini-bus taxi accident on the R59, just after the Michelle Avenue on-ramp, Alberton.
The accident occurred at 05:52 on Thursday, September 29, no other vehicle was involved.
According to Maswati Mdluli from Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, the mini-bus taxi was travelling from Farraday Taxi Rank in Johannesburg to Alrode. All the 11 passengers were male.
“One man has succumbed to his injuries and passed away on the scene, eight suffered serious injuries and were taken to various hospitals. Two of the eight serious were air-lifted, one to Sunshine Hospital, the other to Thelle Hospital, Natalspruit.
“Emergency Services on the scene were, Ekurhuleni EMS, Helivac, ER24, Emerg-Emed, Netcare and Baneshu with EMS Helicopters, Netcare and Buthelezi.
“The accident scene has been handed over to Metro SAPS and Crash Incident Investigation,” Mdluli said.
