Next SA rock legend

Raceview's very own country rock singer is set to rock SA with her soon to be released album.

RACEVIEW: You may recognize the 22-year-old country singer Cheri Gagiano who was on the Local is Lekker CD, with her song Quiet Days.

Cheri is currently busy compiling her own CD, which will have a little bit of everything on it and should be on the shelves at the end of October.

She is currently a country rock singer but was originally an opera singer. Cheri started singing at a very young age and at 12 years old she was competing all around SA. Within one month of signing a two year contract with Local is Lekker; she released her first song, which was on many radio stations.

Local is Lekker sponsored her with R100 000 to complete her CD, although she does not know what she will name her album. Cheri will also be going on tour to Port Elizabeth to participate in many festivals. She will be performing alongside artists such as Ben Kruger and many more.

Her family believe in her all the way and fans are going crazy on her Facebook page. “I cannot believe that my dreams are becoming a reality. I was born and raised in Alberton and never thought that I would actually become a country singer.

“In saying that, I would like to send a special thanks to my two producers Eugene Havenga and Edwin Oliphant for the time and effort they put in. They went out of their way to help me to become established as a solo artist,” said Cheri.

In her spare time, Cheri spends her time writing all her own music, doing fundraisers and being with her husband and son Caleb-Leigh. She is a down to earth girl who isn’t full of nonsense. She believes in having fun. She lives by the quote “Don’t take life too seriously because you’ll get old too quick.”

Cheri hopes to get South Africa’s name on the map in the same way Charlize Theron did. When she is ready, Cheri will be going to Canada to perform with Dolly Parton. “This is a huge honour for me as I grew up listening to her music.

“Country music makes more sense than Lady Gaga and the younger crowd would be surprised at how good country music is.”

You can find Cheri on Facebook: Cheri Gagiano (her fan page is linked to that account) and you will be able to give your ideas for a name of her album on Facebook too.
