NATIONAL NEWS: Another attack on paramedics

ER24 strongly condemns the attack on paramedics.

YET again two paramedics were attacked recently, this time in the Happy Valley informal settlement situated in Blackheath, Cape Town. “It does not matter which company you work for, we are all family in the industry and attacking one paramedic means attacking all paramedics,” said Werner Vermaak, ER24 spokesperson.

Vandalising emergency vehicles means fewer vehicles are available in case of an emergency in the area, which ultimately increases the risk to patients. It also affects the average taxpayer, as they are paying to replace or repair those vehicles. In private services, continuing to damage vehicles will result in a withdrawal of services, delayed response or eventually a price increase for services rendered. “We urge the South African Police Service to implement a plan to trace these suspects and arrest them. We also urge members of the community to provide information they might have about these unscrupulous individuals to the police. By keeping quiet, it will eventually affect you and your loved ones.”

People are urged not to purchase any medical equipment or medical stock sold at second-hand shops or from medical companies, pharmacies or people who are not registered to provide such services.
