Cachalia visits Eden Park

The Democratic Alliance (DA) mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni, Ghaleb Cachalia, visited Eden Park recently to gain support for his campaign.

THE Democratic Alliance (DA) mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni, Ghaleb Cachalia, visited Eden Park recently to gain support for his campaign.

On Thursday, July 14, Cachalia, DA members and ward councillors gathered at a park on the corner of Honda and Achmat Dangor streets, to spread their message to the residents of Eden Park.

“I come from a family who were all involved in the struggle, from the time of Gandhi, up until the point of gaining freedom. I was not very involved in politics, and after school, I studied business and that is the path I followed, working in my family’s fabric and textiles business, private equity, and so forth.

“From 1994, I have seen some progress in our country, but I have seen, on a much larger scale, the corruption, cadre deployment, broken promises, and deceit of the ruling party. Just look at this area, there was R101-million allocated to clean and beautify it, but look at it; when you see the workers, they sit and lie around sleeping, doing absolutely nothing. This made me decide to roll up my sleeves and do something about it, so a few months ago, I joined the DA, left all my business interests behind, and now I spend all my time and energy on this,” Cachalia said.

Cachalia spoke to the residents about the problems he had witnessed and what he plans to do to fix them if he should be elected.
