Resident challenges EMM regarding load shedding

This letter serves as a serious question for the EMM (Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality) as to why they are carrying out load-shedding, but not informing residents of this.

THIS letter serves as a serious question for the EMM (Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality) as to why they are carrying out load shedding, but not informing residents of this.

We have experienced this several times on a Sunday, and I know of other areas in Alberton where friends and family live, who have the same problem.

I have called the municipality countless times to report this issue, and to ask why they don’t notify us when they shut off the power, but they never pick up the phone – it just rings and rings.

Unhappy resident

EMM comments: “We can say explicitly and without contradiction that there is no load shedding within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality area.

“The power interruption that the consumers are experiencing are caused by either equipment theft or failure, not load shedding.

“Unfortunately, these problems cannot be foreseen, so we cannot give prior notice for those particular power interruptions affecting your area,” said Zweli Dlamini, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

He never commented on why the phones are allegedly not being answered.
