Burglars stab reverend in his home

His wife was stabbed while holding their baby.

REVEREND Linroe Jass and his wife survived a brutal attack in their Mayberry Park home after intruders stabbed the reverend 18 times.

In the early hours of Monday morning, May 30, Linroe and his wife, who moved into their new Mayberry Park home two months ago, were sleeping peacefully when suddenly their sleep was interrupted by someone stabbing the reverend.

He was stabbed 18 times mostly on his head and face. His wife Zonia was stabbed on her arms while holding their baby. The child was unharmed and the parents were rushed to hospital after they managed to call for help.

According to one of the Eden Park Congregational Church elders, Hendrik Abrams, the burglars broke the burglar bars and made their entry into the house through a window.

The elder further said the reverend told him he was awoken by somebody standing over him and then stabbing him. The intruders demanded keys to the safe, firearms, cash, jewellery and laptops.

“The reverend said he thought he was dying as one intruder kept on stabbing him. Every time they could not find the laptop where he said it was, he was stabbed. I was also told that after the intruders located the laptop, they loaded all the electrical appliances and television into the reverend’s car and drove away,” Hendrik said.

The couple is receiving treatment in the Netcare Union Hospital while their Eden Park congregation is praying for their recovery.

Zonia has since been discharged from hospital but reverend Linroe remains in hospital.

Brackenhurst police is investigating a case of attempted murder and theft.
