A COLOUR run was held at Rietvlei Zoo Farm on Monday, May 2, to raise funds for ConQuer Crew, dancers from ReeMicks Dance Studio hoping to go to Las Vegas for a dance competition.

The ReeMicks Dance Studio in Brackenhurst, which will celebrate its four-year anniversary in September, qualified for the HHI (Hip-Hop International) Dance competition in Las Vegas.

The six- to 12-year-olds qualified by placing fourth at a local competition, held in March. The HHI Championships will be held from August 5 to August 15.

Wesley Grainger, the dance crew leader, got the idea to hold a colour run to raise funds for the team to head off to this competition abroad.

According to Grainger, their goal is to raise R240 000.

Along with the colour run, there were also stalls and entertainment, including singers and a magic show at the event.

“I would just like to thank all the dedicated parents, members of the public who have supported us, and of course the sponsors who made all this possible, namely Little Green Beverages; Refreshhh; Alberante BMW; Alberton Ford; Gecko Media; Aura Thai Health Spa (for the prizes) and Calisto’s Portuguese Restaurant,” said Grainger.

Further events taking place to raise funds include the Family Food and Fragrance Festival, being held at Emperors Palace on Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8, as well as a golf day being held at Reading Golf Club on Tuesday, May 17, for the three dance crews from Johannesburg going to Las Vegas.
