Together we can fight crime

The Alberton Police Station and CPF held a meeting to discuss issues of concern and the way forward with regards to crime-fighting on Thursday, March 31

THE Alberton Police Station and CPF held their monthly meeting to discuss issues of concern and the way forward with regards to crime-fighting on Thursday, March 31.

This meeting is held every last Thursday of the month with the CPF, at the Alberton Police Station, 56 Van Riebeeck Avenue, Alberton North.

“All members of the community who wish to be registered crime-fighters are welcome. Let us fight crime together,” said Sergeant Nkuna, Alberton SAPS spokesperson. “Recently we have noticed that bulk properties such as fridges and washing machines are being stolen from houses and that cannot happen if we have a neighbourhood watch. We must know what is happening around us. Cars cannot come, load and go in the neighbourhood without neighbours asking questions or noticing. We appeal to the community to look after each other. The first step is to have your neighbours’ contact details and to call police when we see something suspicious. Let the police verify any suspicious activity, even if it is at your neighbours’ house. You do not need to belong to any forum to do a neighbourhood watch. What you need is to know police contact numbers and watch for any suspicious activity and inform the police. Together we can stop housebreakings in the area,” added Nkuna.
