Albertsdal attacker arrested

A repeat offender was caught and arrested by security officers in Albertsdal on Friday, March 11.

BRACKENDOWNS SAPS, law enforcement, emergency services and security companies worked together to arrest a suspect in connection with a violent attack.

On Friday, March 11, a woman was attacked and robbed in Albertsdal by a 21-year-old man. The woman was stabbed in the chest and sustained internal injuries. She was also sexually assaulted.

Following the attack, the woman rushed into a complex whose security alerted the Community Policing Forum (CPF). CPF representatives called for assistance from Fox Security, Sentinel Security and D&D Tactical Security Services. The victim was given medical attention by the National Paramedical Services and was transported to hospital for further treatment.

The private security companies searched for the suspect who was found on the corner of Delphinium and Flamink streets. A stop and search revealed that the suspect was in possession of stolen items belonging to the victim. The suspect was arrested and appeared in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday, March 14, on charges of attempted murder, armed robbery and sexual assault. According to Brackendowns SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Lindi Moloi, the man has since been linked to two other rape cases.

Sgt Moloi thanked each security company for their swift response to the attack. “This is not about business; this is about crime prevention. I am honoured to be working with these people and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve in the future,” Sgt Moloi said.
